The Erawan Shrine

This popular Brahman shrine attracts more visitors than many of the city’s temples. It was built on the site of the Erawan Hotel in the 1950’s by the Thai government. After consulting with astrologers, the four-faced figure of the Brahman God was considered to be auspicious. Thai Buddhism has always been influenced by Brahma beliefs making this a popular shrine for making merit by local Thai people and visitors to Bangkok.

Wat Hua Lamphong

Wat Hua Lamphong built during the Rattanakosin period, is also known as The Coffin Temple. Visitors here can make merit by praying and also by sponsoring a coffin. The coffins are for underprivileged people who cannot afford to buy a coffin for their relative or for homeless people who die alone. This temple was renovated in 1996 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of King Bhumipol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

Wat Pathum Wanaram

King Mongkut built this temple in 1957, at the time it was the nearest place of worship to Sa Pathum Palace. During those days the area was only accessible by canal and was surrounded by rice fields. This is a great place to escape the city for some history and culture, highlights include the rare examples of ancient craftsmanship that was used to carve the walls of the crematorium.

The Ganesha Shrine, CentralWorld

A large Ganesha Shrine is located outside CentralWorld. The Hindu god Ganesha is considered a master of intellect and wisdom, and visitors to the shrine seek to be blessed with artistic success and accomplishment. A red lotus is the main offering amongst many that are dedicated to this god.

Trimurti Shrine, CentralWorld

This Hindu shrine to the God of Love is a landmark outside CentralWorld in Bangkok. An auspicious time to present on offering to the Trimurti Shrine is Thursday at 21.30, when singles make offerings of red roses in the hope they will meet their eternal love.

Lakshmi Shrine, Gaysorn Village

The Goddess of Wealth and Fortune is located on the fourth floor of the Gaysorn Village shopping mall. She was born from the holy sea of milk on a lotus blossom during the famed quest of the Elixir of Immortality. Many people make offerings of pink flowers, coins and other symbols of wealth.
